The Cell Phones

The Cell Phones demand your discomfort, beginning with their name’s deliberate courtship with banality. The diva with the mic, the gentleman on bi-amped acoustic bass, and the wiry lad behind the little kit do not apologize, daring your eye-rolls and sighs of dismissal. Two notes of blast-beat, angular overdriven bass crunch, and seductress/siren wail later, and you will remind yourself never ever again to make aural judgments on the basis of any evidence other than sonic manifestation — a manifestation the Cellies approach in its ideal state, SURPISE. — 1009

The Cell Phones Live New Years Eve 2011

In a colorful, crowded Humboldt Park apartment, filled with happy Midwestern revelers, The Cell Phones performed an extremely energetic set of music to ring in the new year. We captured half of the songs in this year spanning performance, and we’re glad we did. Not to be missed are the two covers, Cyndi Lauper’s She Bop, and a mashup of Devo’s Girl U Want with The Beatles’ I Want You (She’s So Heavy), along with a pretty stellar rendition of Auld Lang Syne.

We all hope you have a fantastic 2012!
